Carroll Goodsell

Carroll A. Goodsell, age 96, died peacefully on Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Heartwarming House in Milton following a stroke. She was born on April 10, 1916 in Mendota, IL, the daughter of Herbert and Cecil (Bullen) Getchell. Carroll graduated from Janesville High School in 1933. She married Martin Goodsell on June 7, 1936 at First Baptist Church in Janesville. They raised six children, Shirley, Carolyn, Joyce, Herb, Nancy and Doug. He preceded her in death on February 11, 1993.  Carroll sewed clothing for many people until she was over 75 years old. She played the violin for many years including playing with the Rockford Symphony. She loved to swim and  still went swimming until the end of July of this year. She was a very active member of First Baptist Church where she belonged to the women’s circle, was a member of the church choir, was in charge of many church dinners and was best known as the donut lady. She also drove the church van for many functions, was a Meals on Wheels volunteer and was active with the Wilson School Breakfast Club..
Carroll leaves behind her six children, Shirley (Jon) Harrie of Janesville, Carolyn (Dave) Yeager of River Falls, WI, Joyce Hedgecock of Janesville, Herb (Carol) Goodsell of Beloit, Nancy (Bob) Church of Fort Atkinson, Doug (Sheryl) Goodsell of Fort Wayne, IN, 24 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Otis.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville. Funeral services will be at Noon Friday, October 12, 2012 at First Baptist Church, 3414 Woodhall Drive, Janesville. Officiating will be Chaplain David Brynelson and Rev. Jerry Amstutz. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church. The family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home
